Humility

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Humility is one of the features a Muslim has to internalize to become a good believer. The Almighty Allah wants man to be humble and liable to goodness. Humility is the honour by which all the great became great and its opposite causes some to be the meanest of all the creatures. And individual could not be in a state of satisfaction of oneself till he enters Paradise. Even though we do great things, it may not so in the record book, because everything is regarded as good or bad considering the intention behind it. While the completion of the erection of Ka’aba, instead of feeling pride and satisfaction, Ibrahim Alaihissalam and Ismail Alaihissalam felt the indebtedness to Allah and expressed their humility to Him. Allah says:

ُ

And remember Ibrahim and Isma'il raised the foundations of the House (With this prayer): "Our Lord! Accept (this service) from us: For Thou art the All-Hearing, the All-knowing. "Our Lord! make of us Muslims, bowing to Thy (Will), and of our progeny a people Muslim, bowing to Thy (will); and show us our place for the celebration of (due) rites; and turn unto us (in Mercy); for Thou art the Oft-Returning, Most Merciful.

(Al Baqara 127-128)

They requested Allah to accept their deed and they prayed to keep them Muslims. So at the completion of any good deed we can not feel contentment because it is up to Allah to decide according to our Niyyat (intention).

What is the limit of devastative result of arrogance? No, arrogance has no limit in it’s practice and limit.

Azazeel was one of the inhabitants of Paradise and was in a good position in knowledge and worship of Allah. It is said that there is no point of space in earth and heavens except it is subjected to the prostration of Azazeel.

But now ‘His Arrogance’ Azazeel is considered to be the meanest of all creatures in the world. What made him so is his arrogance and hatred towards Adam, the first of the respected human beings. Azazeel’s knowledge and the good history of worship did not save him from the eternal curse of The Almighty.

Though the ultimate respect and humility are due to Allah, He himself has commanded us to respect messengers, parents, elders, rulers, Ulamas, and everyone who has a position in the view of Islam.

Respect and mercy are the two elements by which the world is running smoothly. Islam gives much stress for these two phenomena. A good human relationship is built upon these two qualities. That is why the teacher of the humanity taught us:

ليس منا من لم يرحم صغيرنا و يعرف حق كبيرنا

They are not among us who do not have mercy on the children and those who don't know the right of the elders.

How much the loss of the two affected the world is rightly perceived by the existing scenario in the contemporary world. The destruction of the social set up and the morality is the result of the negation of the two. The love and respect are the two wings by which the relationships are balanced. Society can stand without harm only if we give the due consideration to bring back the lost power of the two qualities.

According to the teachings of Qur’aan the mercy and respect have no boundaries of faith or cast or any kind of sectarian views. The Qur’aan itself starts with the proclamation of the mercy of God which is limitless and boundless. Qur’aan starts with the verse:

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

In the verse above the two qualities of Allah are stated; Rahman and Raheem. Both the words derived from on root word Rahima. But both are with different meanings. The Exegetes of Qur’aan have explained the meanings of the two. The meaning of the first is Allah is one who extends mercy to all the things in the world, let it be with devotion to God or not. That is, all the graces of Allah to the creatures are due to His Rahmaniyyat.  And the second means Allah is one who gives his special mercy hereafter to those who worshipped him here. So the Paradise and all the rewards in it are due to The Almighty Allah’s Raheemiyyat.

The above discussion indicates that the Creator himself do not want to differentiate between the believer and non believer in this world in the matter of giving his worldly grace. So no one is entitled to block such graces of Allah to any human being solely for the reason that he is an unbeliever. More over, the lesson taught by The Messenger of Allah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam is that a believer can not be good human being if he fills his stomach while his neighbor is suffering from starvation. Here no cast bar is explained.
