Islam Times reports that Giuliano Amato, the former
Italian Minister of the Interior, despite pressure from secularists, said:
“Mary (a) accepted the hijab and that he would never agree with a banning it
in Italy.”
Amato said that Mary was the mother of Christ (a) and that she wore a hijab.
Therefore, Italy cannot accept the ban of a hijab in its country. Fanatic
secular groups in Italy are demanding that the hijab be banned in their
country. They claim that the hijab presents a danger to Christian culture.
The former Minister of the Interior addressed the secularists and said: “One
of the most loved women of history was Holy Mary (a). She always wore a hijab.
How can you expect me to oppose the Muslim hijab?”
Amato also mentioned another thing that the secularists are after. He said: “A
group of fanatic secularists are requesting that some paintings of Holy Mary
(a) be changed [to have her hijab removed].”
The hijab debate in Italy is something that has been mentioned in the
international media. But, it is not seen in many Islamic newspapers
